Perched above a steep sided river gorge, and featuring an abundance of glass walls and windows to maximize the spectacular 360 degree view of forest, the sea and the mountains, this multi leveled property is just a few minutes drive from some of the best beaches on the island. Villa Moonlight is a stunningly Bali rental villa overlooking the Indian Ocean at Uluwatu on the southwest tip of the Bukit Peninsula.
Accommodation and facilities include four air-conditioned bedrooms, complete with glamorous ensuite bathrooms, an open plan living and dining area incorporating a fully equipped feature kitchen, and an upstairs sitting room, which offers the choice of open air living or air-conditioned comfort. There is also a rooftop terrace and an entertainment terrace, as well as a very spacious poolside lounge and bar. This refreshingly different holiday villa in Bali is complemented by terraced gardens full of flowers, ponds, water features, and a 15-metre swimming pool resting beside a smooth flat lawn.
Each bedroom is equipped with audio and visual facilities, and each is flanked by a private balcony or terrace. Immaculate attention has been paid to the interiors with rich fabrics and high quality furnishings. The upstairs sitting room is equipped with a 42” TV/DVD player and surrounds sound, while a shallow, clear water pond on a lower level presents a unique alfresco dining experience
The bedrooms at Moonlight Villa are all spacious and comfortable, each with a king-size bed (bedroom four can also be configured as a twin room), couches, TVs, jacuzzi tubs, terraces or balcony sitting areas, and en-suite bathrooms. The master, at ground level, offers the most privacy. It is the largest of the four with its own sitting area, marble floors and outdoor shower. On one side of the bedroom, water silently cascades down a wall from an ornamental pond above. Bedroom two is situated above the master, though slightly smaller in size. Bedrooms three and four are located off to the side of the main building. They are almost mirror images of each other except the downstairs suite has an outdoor shower and garden views, while upstairs has sea views from its terrace.
Living, dining and kitchen
Folding glass doors on three sides of Moonlight Villa’s mid-level living and dining area create a sense of oneness with the outdoors and the illusion of tremendous space. Soft couches and a coffee table form a sitting area, a dining table lies at the room’s centre and a modern and well-fitted Western kitchen occupies the far end of this bright space, complete with a window-side breakfast bar, and central prep island. Cooled three ways by ceiling fans, natural breezes and air conditioning, this floor also boasts a unique feature: a shallow pond just outside faces the ocean with two deck chairs at its centre, inviting guests to soothe their weary feet in its cool waters.
Media room and rooftop terrace
On the top floor of the villa, a second lounge/media room is furnished with comfortable couches and easy chairs and comes equipped with a 42-inch satellite-channel TV, Nintendo Wii and surround-sound entertainment. Again, lots of windows create a cool and breezy environment with great views over the ocean and surrounding landscape. Beyond the media room is a large stone terrace with all-weather couches and cushions – made for sunset cocktails and for watching the unveiling of the night sky.
Garden, pool and lounge bar
Down at ground level, and accessed via two staircases, one on either side of the living and dining room, the villa’s 15 x 3-metre, elbow-shaped swimming pool is part outdoors and part under cover. At the garden end is a paved terrace furnished with sunloungers and umbrellas, while by the pool lounge is a shallow area fitted with therapeutic whirlpool jets – ideal for young children and shade-seekers.
The relaxed poolside lounge features a bar, TV, sound system, couches and a large cushioned daybed, which can double as a massage area. Alongside the pool is a perfectly manicured lawn overlooking the forested valley and creating an ideal setting for small events or weddings for up to 20 people.
Villa Moonlight is located on the most southwesterly tip of the beautiful area known as The Bukit – a
limestone plateau rising sharply from the sea, fringed by steep cliffs and some of the most idyllic beaches in
Bali. Characterized by wide open spaces and clear blue skies, the turquoise waters are the playground of
migrating whales. A tropical, equatorial climate means year-round balmy temperatures and, even in the rainy
season, The Bukit – which is much drier than the rest of the island – is a reliable sun-trap. When the
southeast trade winds blow offshore and the southern ocean swells hit the reefs, the barreling surf breaks are
among the best in the world. The only other activity along the coastline is seaweed farming, still traditionally
practiced by the original Balinese coastal families.
